Flare It Out

AnaB-Sept-22

Sometimes jeans can feel like a dime a dozen. Don’t get me wrong; I have my favorite old pair that are my security blanket whenever I wear them. Yet there’s something about a pair that make a bold statement. These Hudson flares, also worn here and here, are my statement jeans.

I paired them with a white summer dress and plaid shirt a la Joanna Gaines, because whatever Joanna Gaines does is awesome. The end. I’ve linked my Hudson jeans and the rest of my outfit below <3.

Ana B

p.s. In case you don’t know who Joanna Gaines is.

p.s.s. Special thanks to Susannah of Alumbra Photography for taking these spectacular photos!

Make it Black and White

AnaB-Sept-36

There is a really simple way to look put together, and it’s wearing an outfit of black and white. I actually don’t do it often, but when I do I feel effortlessly chic. On the days when I am not seeing clients, I tend to stay in my gym clothes, so I’ve been on the hunt for ways to take my athletic wear up a notch. It’s such a plus to be able to walk into the grocery store, or grab some lunch after the gym without looking like a sweaty college kid. So many brands have caught onto this, and are now making transitional active wear.

The one I’m wearing is an oversized white muscle tee and leggings by Kate Hudson’s Fabletics. I subscribe to them monthly and I get to pick from outfits already put together for a great price and great quality. I can also skip the month if I’m not interested in purchasing an outfit.

There are other great affordable options like these ones at Target and Kohls. The point is ladies; if you’re gonna wear your active wear all day long, you might as well make it cute! You’ll not only feel great about working out, but also look great while doing it.

A second post will be coming soon on “How to get your butt back into fitness mode after an all inclusive vacation to Mexico”, hehe! :)

Mexico on the Horizon

AnaB-July-40

Okay, so I know that summer is basically over and it’s starting to get a bit nippy in the evenings, but I have a trip to Mexico planned in October! Yay! Sans kids. Double Yay! This means I will be keeping some of my summer staples within reach to take on that trip. I haven’t been out of the country since I was a little girl! This didn’t even hit me until I had to renew my passport, which I’ve never actually used. It’s a sad situation and I feel terribly uncultured (insert frown emoji here). I vowed to Pablo that I would be visiting a new country every year from now on. So yea, there goes the kid’s college fund. Joking! There’s no college fund. AnaB-July-41AnaB-July-35 AnaB-July-36 AnaB-July-33 AnaB-July-37 AnaB-July-38 AnaB-July-47

A couple notes on this outfit. These boyfriend style jeans are from Target and I wear them a few times a week if possible. I love their relaxed baggy fit and distressed style. They are perfect for running errands with kiddos or you can dress them up with heels like I did here! The kimono is a clothing piece that I will be buying more of since it’s great for layering and makes a simple jeans and tee outfit so much more interesting. Lastly, I was informed by my dear friend and stylist Adriana Castanon that my espadrille shoes are a new, more grown up version of the converse in that it’s casual, versatile and cute! I’m going to second that because I wear them every chance I get.

Ana B

Summer Day to Night Look and Amazing Things

AnaDaytonight.jpg

A couple amazing things have happened to me lately. No. 1.  Nordstrom Rack moved into my neighborhood! I mean, I could just stop here. Cause yep, that’s pretty amazing. Anyone else a huge Nordies Rack fan?!  No. 2. I have fallen in love with my friend Katya’s jewelry boutique “She’s Unique” in Old Town Alexandria! “She’s Unique” has the best dainty jewelry around, including tons of midi rings which makes my vainy hands so much more feminine (I hope!) . I also scored a cute metallic leather clutch there, and I’m about to wear it EVERYWHERE! Please someone, invite me out so I can wear my new clutch. Chuck “E” Cheese doesn’t count.

Not sure if my outfits are boring for the summer, or just realistic, but a pair of jeans and a tank are my current go to. Ofcourse, you can switch out the jeans for some shorts. My legs are still hiding from a recent bout of excema (insert TMI here). But otherwise, it’s so easy to dress this everyday look with a white blazer and some rockin’ heels.

Hope you’re enjoying your summer! I am panicking at the moment trying to think of how to keep 3 boys from killing each other or me while school’s out, but that’s another blog post.

Ana B

Fitness and Meal Ideas for May

Hey there! Sadly, my last post was about two months ago! This is all due to Makeup by Ana B’s crazy wedding season! All my time and focus has been taken over by the business, so my little blog has been a bit abandoned. Bare with me though, because I don’t plan to stop blogging! And I appreciate you reading along when I do post :).

20150506_115645 (1)Nothing like some new fitness gear! I recently purchased the New Balance 711 Cross Training Shoe for about $54 and so far I love them!  I wore them to Zumba, and I felt better support and comfort than when I wear my Nike Frees. I also purchased a ton of these long and lean tank tops from Target in different colors, and they’re still having a sale on them if you buy online :). I wear them both for working out or for layering with every day outfits.

I’ve been pretty consistent with my eating and work out routine lately and I try to drink a green shake daily. I usually mix two servings of spinach, one serving of fruit, 1 cup of milk and a scoop of protein, or 1 cup of greek yogurt and chia/flax seeds with crushed ice. I try to keep fresh berries, pears and bananas on hand all the time for my shakes.20150420_183901

This is a typical meal my husband likes to cook for us! Grilled chicken seasoned with garlic and low sodium seasonings, grilled veggies, cottage cheese, and avocado. Quick and healthy!

20150422_19144320150425_18304220150429_194415I’m still cooking my way through my Skinnytaste Cookbook! Sometimes I need more than just a quick and plain dinner. Recently, I made these Quinoa Stuffed Peppers, which is a great vegetarian option and so delicious! I also made the Grilled Rosemary Lamb chops and Chicken Rollatini Stuffed with Mozzarella and Zuchinni with a side of quinoa. All of these are great options, but take a little extra work, which I know is hard with littles running around. So make sure to get some music going and get started early!
20150429_145613I found this to be a satisfying snack or light lunch option: two boiled eggs, 1/2 avocado and toasted Ezekiel bread with a bit of pepper on top. I still try to eat three meals a day with two snacks in between. I am definitely not perfect and I like to indulge in summer treats (insert ice cream here!), but overall consistency with eating healthy foods most of time, cutting back on sugary drinks/snacks and working out 3 times a week definitely pays off!

I am not currently updating MyFitnessPal, but I do update my Instagram, Love_AnaB with more food ideas…and adorable pictures of my kiddos and some outfit posts, so please feel free to like, follow and say hello!  :)

Love,

Ana B

Holding on to Summer

Ana B web-14

You see this “cool mom?” ^^^  I don’t really know her. She lives only in my blog. Lol. But seriously. It was a rough weekend with EVERYONE in my family of five being sick. I will spare you all the gory details, but there was none of this cool blogger situation going on! Susannah and I took these a few weeks ago (prior to getting my fall ombre). I didn’t get to enjoy the beautiful warm weather we had this weekend, but I hope it’s here to stay a LOT longer!Ana B web-15 Ana B web-16 Ana B web-17 Ana B web-18 Ana B web-19Ana B web-21 Ana B web-22

I bought these pants at Garage a while ago and I don’t think they’re available anymore. But if you see them there or similar ones anywhere. Buy them. Because they feel like pajamas, and they hide spills or stains from sticky toddlers, and they have a stretchy waistband, AND they make you look cute. Best. Pants. Ever. I think they may be considered trousers, but I can’t be sure.

Love,

Ana B

Wonder Woman and the Nanny

AnaB June28-26

One of the best things about blogging is the ability to go back and reflect on moments of my life, whether a few days, a month or a year ago. Last August, I wrote about “Five Things that Keep me Sane“. While some of those things are still true today, life looks a lot different now, aka more complicated! Since then my “side business” has become a more demanding full time business which lead us to hire a nanny for extra help with the kiddos. For a long time, I fought the idea of having a nanny because I really wanted to be “Wonder Woman”. I wanted to do it all and do it all so well! But the thing is when I try to do it all, in reality I am just a grumpy mess. And I can’t always blame my Puerto Rican roots for my short temper; the hubs is not buying it anymore ;). I have realized that I am the best me when I focus on my strengths and acknowledge and accept my humanity.

The decision to get a nanny has been kinda awesome so far. The house is cleaner and the kids smell a lot better overall. I was also able to manage a kitchen remodel and move to a new home without losing my entire mind. The future is looking bright friends!

I have a love for A-line skirts. They’re very feminine and classy! I paired this midi length one from H&M with a distressed jean jacket to give it a bit more edge. I also love the peter pan collar cutout on this cotton shirt I found at Kohls for a great price. Hehe! Now say that out loud three times fast :).
