Things to Do In October

AnaB-Sept-2

October came in with a FURYYYY, didn’t it?! I mean the raining, the dark skies and the uh, hurricane warnings?! It’s definitely fall in Virginia, we can’t fight it anymore! There are ways to help make the transition to this cooler weather a little more enjoyable. Here are some ideas!

  1. Closet Rotation/Organization: There’s no point in sifting through all the summer clothes you can’t wear anymore. Find a few hours this month to do some closet reorganization. Put away your summer shorts and dresses, and make some room for all your light sweaters and fall inspired outfits. I enjoyed getting out my fall wardrobe and rediscovering some nice purchases I made this time last year.
  2. Donate and Recycle: It’s also a great time to make a bag for donations. If it’s too big, too small, no longer your style, or you haven’t worn it in a year, it’s probably time to donate. The kids clothes will also need a donation pile, as they grow out of everything so fast!
  3. Make a Purchase List: Once you’re Fall/Winter closet is newly organized, you can see what you need to invest in (rainboots anyone? new sneaks for the kids?)
  4. Visit a Pumpkin Patch: I still remember the first time I went with Diego.  It was just so fun! We’ve visited a few times since then and I’m definitely planning to visit with my tribe again.
  5. Join a Dance, Fitness or Martial Arts Class:  If you follow me on Instagram (@Love_AnaB) or Snapchat (AnaMetLeno), you’ll know how much I just love Zumba. I mean, latin music and a great workout?! I LOVE IT! Pablo and I also joined a Krav Maga self defense class together. It’s a great way to learn a new skill as a couple, all the while doing something physically active.
  6. Decorate for Fall: You can do it yourself, or buy it at Target, but a few Fall inspired pieces to decorate your home will make the transition more enjoyable. A few easy favorites of mine are pumpkin spice candles, a fall wreath for the door, and white or decorative pumpkins for the kitchen table.
  7. Get Your Baking On! I’m planning on trying these Pumpkin Protein Muffins for a healthier alternative.

Wishing you a fantastic October <3.

Ana B

Washington Redskins Walk the Runway for a Great Cause

Redskins3

Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of attending the Redskins Runway Show at Bloomingdale’s in Tysons Corner, VA. The show’s purpose was to raise funds for the Redskins Charitable Foundation, which goes to youth programs throughout the region. The players and their wives walked down the runway showing popular fall trends available at Bloomingdale’s. Here are a few highlights from our night!

I really believe the good will of this Fashion Show led the way for an amazing Redskins win on Sunday, so cheers to Kiersten, Tanya, the WOW Wives, the players and all those who took part.

A big thank you to Vicki Griffith for inviting me to the show.

Mother of Boys

72-BuitragoBoys2015

My dear friend Susannah of Alumbra Photography recently came over my home and captured Diego, Levi and Mateo in all their boyish glory. If these photos had a volume button, you’d hear lots of giggles, yelling, excitement and general silliness. 58-BuitragoBoys201565-BuitragoBoys2015b60-BuitragoBoys201549-BuitragoBoys201555-BuitragoBoys201556-BuitragoBoys201505-BuitragoBoys201507-BuitragoBoys201510-BuitragoBoys201524-BuitragoBoys2015b03-BuitragoBoys2015

Being a mother to these boys is by far the most challenging job I’ve ever known. I have learned to embrace the noise and the mess of it all. I can eat a full meal in like two minutes and I’ve developed cat like reflexes to dodge a toy car to the head. Survival folks! I have cried many tears of frustration, but also have cried out of sheer joy and pride over my little ones. I am growing along with them, and I don’t always get it right. I have learned to give myself room for mistakes, and ask for forgiveness from them when I need to. The beautiful thing about kids is their amazing capacity to love so generously. Levi and Mateo greet me with a huge smile and yell “MAMAAAAAAAA” every time they see me. Even if I just went to the bathroom. Yes, its freakin’ cute.

I know they won’t be this little always. I get excited about them becoming more independent. But I also just want to cherish this moment…when I’m still their world. God knows they’re mine.

Thank you again Susannah <3.

Ana B

Debt is a Fashion Don’t.

AnaB-Jan-45With a new year comes a new set of resolutions and goals. My mind has been on overdrive thinking about the things I want to accomplish this year! As a responsible thirty-something mom of three, I have been pondering the irony of two of my top goals: (1) Provide new and better content with my fashion/beauty posts on Love, Ana B and (2) Become debt free/save for our emergency fund. That got me thinking…how can I responsibly shop for new clothing/beauty items to share on my blog without breaking the bank and have some money to save for a rainy day. And secondly, is there a percentage of monthly income that financial advisers recommend for clothing purchases? The answer is YES!  A few articles later, including this one from WHO WHAT WEAR and this one from Pete the Planner, I found that 5% of your monthly net income should be allocated to your wardrobe. For example, if you take home 3,500 a month, you could be spending $175 on new fashion.

The percentage could vary depending on other factors, like your monthly living expenses, how many children you have and what city you live in (more on that here). Now, do I think that this 5% rule is realistic, especially as a self-proclaimed fashionista? I’m not sure yet, but it’s worth a try! One thing I do know, debt is a fashion DON’T!

Hello December <3

023-Ana -websize

I always love the start of a new month, especially when it falls on a Monday. Mondays are generally tough, but the first of the month signifies a fresh start, new possibilities and new challenges.  I also love how my monthly budget resets…helloooooo Christmas shopping! :)037-Ana -websize026-Ana -websize031-Ana -websize040-Ana -websize

I’ve decided that I love to wear white after labor day. It’s appropriate always. Except for a funeral, unless there’s a theme, but that’s going off topic. So what are your goals for December?  One of mine is to work off the seven pounds I’ve gained over the last several months. I couldn’t find my scale since I moved to the new house and I FINALLY found it, and stepped on it. So yea….that. I’ll be sharing some tips soon on how to kick start your work out routine. Till then, happy December first!

Ana B

Wonder Woman and the Nanny

AnaB June28-26

One of the best things about blogging is the ability to go back and reflect on moments of my life, whether a few days, a month or a year ago. Last August, I wrote about “Five Things that Keep me Sane“. While some of those things are still true today, life looks a lot different now, aka more complicated! Since then my “side business” has become a more demanding full time business which lead us to hire a nanny for extra help with the kiddos. For a long time, I fought the idea of having a nanny because I really wanted to be “Wonder Woman”. I wanted to do it all and do it all so well! But the thing is when I try to do it all, in reality I am just a grumpy mess. And I can’t always blame my Puerto Rican roots for my short temper; the hubs is not buying it anymore ;). I have realized that I am the best me when I focus on my strengths and acknowledge and accept my humanity.

The decision to get a nanny has been kinda awesome so far. The house is cleaner and the kids smell a lot better overall. I was also able to manage a kitchen remodel and move to a new home without losing my entire mind. The future is looking bright friends!

Red

AnaBEdit-19

I don’t wear red too often but here I am wearing red. And black too, but red. Not sure if you are aware, but a sweet family lost their little boy in a terrible accident a few days ago. I don’t know them personally, but their story has gone viral on Instagram. He had the most beautiful red curly hair. You can read about it here and here. This is just one sweet boy, and I know that people lose loved ones everyday, but this one hit home since his mom is a blogger like myself, and he reminded me so much of my Levi. So full of life, attitude and fearlessness…

Anyways, I’m hugging my little ones a little tighter and longer these days. I am so completely thankful for each moment I get to see and make new memories with my babies. On Mother’s day, a great number of bloggers and the online community will be releasing red balloons in his memory. Such a gesture of love and support for this little family.

Rest in peace little Ryan.

Ana B
