Okay, so I know that summer is basically over and it’s starting to get a bit nippy in the evenings, but I have a trip to Mexico planned in October! Yay! Sans kids. Double Yay! This means I will be keeping some of my summer staples within reach to take on that trip. I haven’t been out of the country since I was a little girl! This didn’t even hit me until I had to renew my passport, which I’ve never actually used. It’s a sad situation and I feel terribly uncultured (insert frown emoji here). I vowed to Pablo that I would be visiting a new country every year from now on. So yea, there goes the kid’s college fund. Joking! There’s no college fund.
A couple notes on this outfit. These boyfriend style jeans are from Target and I wear them a few times a week if possible. I love their relaxed baggy fit and distressed style. They are perfect for running errands with kiddos or you can dress them up with heels like I did here! The kimono is a clothing piece that I will be buying more of since it’s great for layering and makes a simple jeans and tee outfit so much more interesting. Lastly, I was informed by my dear friend and stylist Adriana Castanon that my espadrille shoes are a new, more grown up version of the converse in that it’s casual, versatile and cute! I’m going to second that because I wear them every chance I get.
Here are a few more photos of recent summer shoots with Susannah of Alumbra Photography!
Kimono, Shoes and Hat: Nordstrom Rack of Springfield Mall
Did you like my blog post title? I came up with it all by myself! Ladies, sometimes you just need a pair of ridiculously tall, ridiculously loud shoes. These are mine. I bought them off Nastygal and they always make me wanna wear some black and red.
Also, I’m not over liquid leggings and I’ve had these for years! Liquid leggings can be a bit unforgiving, but you can always pair them with an over-sized sweater, cardigan or long button up shirt for some coverage! I’m glad to say that none of these items were new purchases, haha! Just a closet shuffle and bam! A new outfit post :).
I bought this cute romper from TopShop and wanted to make it work for winter, so I added some leggings and boots. Freezing cold temps are sooo not fun!!! I saw a picture of Kim Kardashian wearing open toed strappy heels in the snow. How does she do it?!
In other news, I think I’ve found my perfect hair length and I’ll tell you why! It’s long enough for top knots, braids and waves, but short enough to blow dry in 20 minutes. I don’t regret at all going short after having Mateo, and I can’t say that I won’t chop it off one day again. But I definitely feel like longer hair feels suits my face better.
Hope you enjoyed the long weekend! I have been living in this faux fur that I got on super sale at the new TopShop in Springfield Town Center. I probably wear it too often, but it’s very warm and easily makes any outfit more interesting.
Also on repeat? Minimal eye makeup with a pop of color on the lips! I would really love to wear bold lips more often, but it’s a tricky thing with having three boys. They always find a way to smear my makeup :/. Between you and me, it’s taken me a long time to get good at applying a bold lip. Practice makes perfect though, so whenever I’ve wanted to learn a new makeup trick, I’ll repeat it very often (though it looks crazy!) for a few weeks until a get it right.
With a new year comes a new set of resolutions and goals. My mind has been on overdrive thinking about the things I want to accomplish this year! As a responsible thirty-something mom of three, I have been pondering the irony of two of my top goals: (1) Provide new and better content with my fashion/beauty posts on Love, Ana B and (2) Become debt free/save for our emergency fund. That got me thinking…how can I responsibly shop for new clothing/beauty items to share on my blog without breaking the bank and have some money to save for a rainy day. And secondly, is there a percentage of monthly income that financial advisers recommend for clothing purchases? The answer is YES! A few articles later, including this one from WHO WHAT WEAR and this one from Pete the Planner, I found that 5% of your monthly net income should be allocated to your wardrobe. For example, if you take home 3,500 a month, you could be spending $175 on new fashion.
The percentage could vary depending on other factors, like your monthly living expenses, how many children you have and what city you live in (more on that here). Now, do I think that this 5% rule is realistic, especially as a self-proclaimed fashionista? I’m not sure yet, but it’s worth a try! One thing I do know, debt is a fashion DON’T!
You know, it was pretty fun walking around Old Town Alexandria with this over-sized plaid thingamajig. I mean, what do you even call it? I thought it was a scarf when I picked it up at H&M, and then it kept going and going. In all honesty, it’s a blanket. And I got to walk around Old Town with a warm fuzzy blanket thrown on top of me…and nobody flinched. A cup of joe and I was set!
How’s your Christmas shopping going? I’m half way done, but honestly, it’s kind of hard to shop for others. I feel like there’s a lot of pressure to get THE MOST AMAZING, SPECIAL, THOUGHTFUL thing you could ever find that’s JUST RIGHT and PREFERABLY engraved and/or SPECIALLY made (by hand!) for that someone. But then I’m like, nah! It really is the thought that counts, right? We all truly got what we NEED and then some. So yes, it’s the thought that matters. Don’t let gift buying stress you out. The gift for that special someone doesn’t need to be life changing. Just thoughtful. And if he/she likes walking around in blankets….well then.
Plaid Thingamajig: H&M (Can’t link to it cause I don’t know what its called.) (Cute Plaid Cape)
Necklace: Daily Chic (It’s super heavy, good for building neck muscles!)
We’re in the swing of November and I am feeling pretty happy about it. I love to see the leaves changing colors, the air is crisp and cool outside, and the holidays are just around the corner, which means family and food! Dressing for fall is so fun too! Deep bold colors and layering is back in action and options are plenty.
I love to dress for comfort and style, and this blazer is a perfect mix of both. I also love a pair of colored pants. It’s a great way to break the monotony of blue jeans and these were a great (and inexpensive) find at Forever 21. Gotta love Forever :).
Hey guys! So it’s been awhile since I did a family update and shared some pics off my phone. As a blogger, sometimes I can get caught up in having the most perfect picture. But the truth is that the best moments are happening off camera, and if there is a picture about it, it’s usually blurry and off-centered. So here are some awesomely big little moments:
Skinnytaste came out out with a recipe book and I am loving it so far. Geesh, just looking at the pictures makes me drool! If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, you’ll know that I used many of her recipes to help me lose the baby weight (read more here), so I am a fan! Her recipes are healthy without compromising taste. I am a big believer in balance and not deprivation when it comes to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
My little Mateo is now 20 months old and he is as CUTE as ever! He carries his little stuffed animals around with him, he loves to watch Paw Patrol with his brothers, and sucks his thumb when he’s sleepy. We have a very special bond aka he’s got me wrapped around his chubby fingers, hehe. <3
Diego turned eight over the weekend! His little cousin Mia slept over and he had a laser tag party with all his primos! Remember those cousin sleepovers?! Those were some of my favorite childhood moments and it makes me happy that my little boy gets to experience the same thing now!
Party time at Shadowland!
We also had an impromptu get-together at my place afterwards. I’ve been waiting for the moment when I could have my family just hanging out around my table, eating, chatting and laughing for hours while the kids play. It just means a lot to me! And what’s a good blog post without a shameless selfie?! The bold fall lippies are now in full effect, and here I’m wearing one of my favorites, Rebel Lipstick by MAC.
One of the best things about blogging is the ability to go back and reflect on moments of my life, whether a few days, a month or a year ago. Last August, I wrote about “Five Things that Keep me Sane“. While some of those things are still true today, life looks a lot different now, aka more complicated! Since then my “side business” has become a more demanding full time business which lead us to hire a nanny for extra help with the kiddos. For a long time, I fought the idea of having a nanny because I really wanted to be “Wonder Woman”. I wanted to do it all and do it all so well! But the thing is when I try to do it all, in reality I am just a grumpy mess. And I can’t always blame my Puerto Rican roots for my short temper; the hubs is not buying it anymore ;). I have realized that I am the best me when I focus on my strengths and acknowledge and accept my humanity.
The decision to get a nanny has been kinda awesome so far. The house is cleaner and the kids smell a lot better overall. I was also able to manage a kitchen remodel and move to a new home without losing my entire mind. The future is looking bright friends!
I’m not sure why I insist on jumping in on the crop top trend. Maybe because I didn’t wear them in my teens. Ya know…secretly wearing them at 15, wearing them unabashedly at 18. Nope, instead I am choosing to wear them at age 32 (now 33). Ha! I think it’s a confidence thing, I am just downright more confident in my 30’s than I ever was. Also, I just really like my stomach. It is one of the areas of my body that responded well to a healthy diet and exercise and is pretty close to it’s pre-baby state. Other areas? Well, that’s a different story and not one for the masses, lol. And so even though it’s not as tight as it could be at this very moment, I like my belly! And I celebrate that with a crop top :).
Also, I LOVE LOVE LOVE a pair of white skinny jeans for the summer. I found these at Target, by the way! They are a closet essential. So even though you might not be sporting a crop top, make sure to snag a pair of white jeans. Only thing is I try not to wear them around my babies. A pair of crisp white jeans are cute, but one with smears and stains is not! ;).
